A Philosophy Degree for Latin America: Introducing Inner Institute

Graduate education in philosophy has long been concentrated in institutions whose frameworks, languages of instruction, and intellectual traditions are rooted in North Atlantic scholarship, producing a persistent gap for students in Latin America who seek rigorous postgraduate study grounded in their own scholarly context and conducted in Spanish. Woolf is pleased to address that gap directly with the announcement of Inner Institute as a member college, and the launch of the Master of Arts in Philosophy with an emphasis in Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Studies, a 90 ECTS postgraduate degree delivered entirely in Spanish, with a first cohort beginning September 2026.

An International Faculty Built for the Region

Inner Institute was founded on the conviction that philosophical inquiry is most meaningful when it is pursued within a genuine intellectual community, one whose members share not only disciplinary expertise but also a deep familiarity with the questions, traditions, and scholarly conversations that define the regional context in which students live and work. Its faculty of more than 15 PhD professors drawn from 10 countries reflects that commitment, bringing together specialists in philosophy, anthropology, social theory, and interdisciplinary research who teach in the language their students think in, rather than across a linguistic barrier that often diminishes intellectual depth.

The program is not a translated European curriculum adapted for a different market; it is a graduate program designed from the ground up for the traditions and scholarly problematics that are distinctive to Latin American intellectual life, while maintaining the rigor and global orientation that graduate-level study demands.

The Degree

The MA in Philosophy (emphasis in Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Studies) is a 90 ECTS program at the postgraduate level, delivered fully online through Woolf’s academic infrastructure and awarded by Woolf under its recognized degree-awarding authority.

The program emphasizes:

• Classical and contemporary philosophical inquiry, with attention to Latin American philosophical traditions
• Interdisciplinary research methods at the intersection of philosophy and anthropology
• Critical engagement with social, cultural, and political thought
• Scholarly writing and graduate-level academic practice

Delivered in Spanish, the program is designed for students who seek serious postgraduate study and whose intellectual formation has been conducted in Spanish, removing the language barrier that has historically made rigorous graduate humanities education inaccessible to much of the region.

Why This Matters

Higher education in Latin America has confronted a longstanding structural deficit in postgraduate humanities programs: the most internationally recognized graduate programs in philosophy are overwhelmingly taught in English or structured around European academic frameworks that do not always translate cleanly to the intellectual landscape of the region. This has meant that students who wish to pursue accredited graduate study in philosophy, and to do so in a language and conceptual context that reflects their own scholarly formation, have had limited options with genuine international standing.

Inner Institute addresses this directly through a program designed by and for scholars who recognize that philosophy in Latin America carries its own rich and distinctive tradition — encompassing engagement with indigenous thought, postcolonial theory, liberation philosophy, and the intersection of anthropology and continental philosophy — and that this tradition deserves a degree program with the academic rigor and global recognition to match its intellectual depth.
